Question:Nihongo
I'm moving to Japan this summer, and I'm worried about language problems. I've heard that most Japanese people don't speak any English, and of course I can't speak a word of Japanese. I'd like to know what other people's experiences have been in this respect. Also, is it easy to pick up the language while you're there?

in my experience it's not so hard to get by without english. most important signs are in both english and japanese, and a lot of japanese people can speak or at least understand a little bit of english. i've been here 10 months and i haven't picked up much of the language myself, but i can't really say i've tried. i know people who are going to japanese classes, and they all tell me that it's a difficult language to learn.
