HABITAT JAPAN

For many people Japan is merely a temporary home, while living here on assignment. For others, Japan has become a permanent home and yet many people are reluctant to really call it home with all the affinity that suggests. Not everything one experiences in Japan will be picnics and roses. In fact, it’s more likely that the troublesome (or mundane) life experiences will be ones greatest opportunities for learning and living life to the fullest.

When Sue Conolly (author and editor) set out to write this book, it soon became clear that to really tell this story she would need to borrow from the experiences of other expatriates. The backgrounds and experiences of the authors are as varied as the stories they tell. Although many still reside in Japan and have assimilated into the Japanese lifestyle, others have only experienced Japan through their intrepid travels and have since moved on to new places or have returned to their home countries.
