3 Events to Kick Off the New Year

In Tokyo: Grand Sumo Tournament
Watching fat people slap each other around has been a favorite Japanese pastime for centuries, and going to watch Sumo is something that you should experience at least once, the Grand Sumo Tournament representing your best chance to fulfill that ambition. This year's event will be held at the Ryogoku Kokugikan for two weeks from the January 10th to 24th, and ticket prices range from ¥2,100 for general admission to ¥14,300 for ringside seats. For more information visit the Nihon Sumo Kyokai English website.

In Nagoya: NIPCC Open Q&A and New Year's Party
On Saturday, January 16th the Nagoya International Personal Computer Club will be holding an open question-and-answer session about computers. If you have any computer-related questions (even really stupid ones like "How do I turn the bloody thing on?"), come and ask away! The NIPCC’s most qualified members will be on hand to give you professional, trustworthy answers. What's more, the session will be followed by a New Year's party!

In Osaka: Doya Doya Festival
Held annually at the Shitenoji Temple in Osaka, two groups of men wearing nothing but loincloths and headbands battle each other for possession of a cow god amulet. This is a popular event with locals as well as tourists, so get in quick! 2010's Doya Doya Festival takes place on January 14th.
